What is Beetlejuice?

He has described himself as: a dead guy, a demon straight from hell, ghost-zombie-jesus, and a specter. We know that his mother is a demon, but his father's details remain unknown. Before his banishment, he worked as a bio-exorcist, helping out ghosts far and wide. Apparently, the Netherworld didn't like that. He is trapped in the world of the living, unable to truly interact with it or leave it behind for the world of the dead. Unlike other ghosts who, with a little practice, can be observed by the living, Beetlejuice has been cursed into obscurity.

He's very upset about this.

You can spell his name two ways: Betelgeus and Beetlejuice. He doesn't care so long as you pronounce it correctly.

first impressions Most peoples' first encounter with Beetlejuice is not their favorite. He comes across as flippant, rude, and gross. He has no respect for boundaries (physical or emotional) and has a hard time paying attention. His movements are swift and sudden, bordering on manic. He smells bad.

features His features are primarily human. He has a round face with deep-set eyes, a high forehead, and short facial hair. His hair is wild and brown, mostly swept backwards and tinged with green. Algae? Moss? General grave grime? Who knows! The same stuff peppers his skin and clothes. His nails are black and fabulous. Beetlejuice is slightly above average height and has a paunch.

clothing Most days Beetlejuice wears a shabby brown coat thrown over a three-piece black and white striped suit with a black tie and black boots. This particular set of clothing is covered in stiches and patches--repairs done by himself. When he conjures up a situational costume, those clothes tend to be in good shape.

Beetlejuice's magic is very old and very strong, but will always be trumped by the magic of Greening's fae.

Summoning

As part of his curse, Beetlejuice cannot say, write, or spell his own name.

When his name is uttered three times in a row by a living person, he is summoned into the area and can affect the physical world. If he is summoned into a building, he must remain in the building. If he is summoned outside, he cannot leave the general area (town, territory, etc...)

What he won't tell you is that once he is summoned into an area, if a living person in that area says his name three times again, he will be banished, returning to his un-summoned and miserable state.

Shape-Shifting

Beetlejuice can easily alter his body's appearance. He favors his human shape the most but when a situation calls for a visual aid, he's ready.

Possession

When summoned, he is able to manipulate those around him. When un-summoned, he can only possess other ghosts.

Reality-Warping

He is able to create illusions and alter the the world around him to suit his needs. This only applies to himself when he is not summoned. When summoned into a building, he can affect the entire building. If summoned outside, his influence can only stretch MAYBE half a mile with him at the center of it.
