Name: Lawrence Betelgeuse (Shoggoth)
Age: 600+
Prns: he/him or whatever he thinks is funniest
Orientation: Yes
Powers:
He's the Ghost with the Most! Grand illusions, transformation, fires, corruption of a space, possession, and double-filled musical numbers are all on display.
Under normal circumstances, the living can't see or heawr him and he can't interact with the physical world beyond illusions perceived by ghosts. People who are particularly in tune with the supernatural can though.
If a living person summons him by saying his name three times, Beetlejuice can come fully into reality and spread his chaos as he wishes--at least inside the place he's been summoned. He can't leave houses/general areas without falling face-first into a sandworm's jaws. At least...not while he's still dead. Eyes emoji.
It doesn't happen in the musical but I choose to include the idea that he can be dismissed the same way since the movie and the cartoon both do this. Nobody really had the chance/idea to do it in the musical.
I fudge BJ's ability to interact with the living world a little bit on memes, like the texting memes for convenience sake.
Weaknesses:
-his ego
-being bound by his name
-his temper
-his attention span
Other Things to Know:
All my icons are of the understudy, Will Blum, but feel free to have your character see him as ANY of the talented actors that have played him on the stage! I imagine he looks a little different from person to person anyway. He's only person-shaped to be polite after all.
The on-broadway version of the show included the detail that BJ's hair/beard changes color with his mood. I forget about this all the time and later showings did away with it, but it's fun to play with sometimes.
